Without wanting to sound arrogant, I had always thought I was a pretty empathetic person, but since my Dad, the head of my family, started using a walking stick, I have infinitely more insight into mobility issues than I had before.

Now in my business, assuming that our client is local enough that they would have been willing to come along to one of our offices, if they have mobility issues, we’re willing to go to them, for no additional charge.

Our service is generally an office based service, and the fact is, time away from the office, is less efficient than clients coming to see us.  We also find that our office is often more peaceful and a better environment to focus on what we’re discussing, particularly compared to a house containing young children.

I’m grateful to my Dad for teaching me an insight I never realised I lacked.  He continues to teach me.  Often, in a bid to demonstrate that he’s totally in control, he raises his walking stick to the air, particularly if he wants to stop the traffic so that someone else can cross the road.  What a great teacher.

If you’ve got mobility issues, whether they’re temporary due to a broken limb, or more permanent, don’t be shy of asking your professional adviser to attend your home to discuss your Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs).
