Back in June 2017, I came face to face with the man who took my Mum’s whole estate, when I was just 9 years old.

In September, I felt able to write about that experience, and how it had sowed the seed for JC Independent Wills & Probate and how it impacts the way I do business.

Now I find myself at the age my Mum died, 44 years, and it’s far too young. Of course no-one expects to die this young, even if your health isn’t great. You might expect to be a bit poorly, see the doctor from time to time, but not to actually die.

I don’t want to scare anyone, but please, please, work on the basis that you might conceivably die earlier than you plan.

Yes, you.

Get things organised properly. You’ll probably find that if you get your Will done professionally, it’ll include all sorts of back up plans, so that if other people, who you’re including in your Will, die, then you have alternatives already included in the document. If you find yourself divorcing, falling out with people, or experiencing significant life changes, then you can get yourself a new Will, to reflect your new situation.

I won’t be in my office this afternoon. It is my birthday, after all. You can make contact with me though, at jane@jcwillsandprobate.co.uk or you can call my colleague on 01727 840 240 and book a time to speak with me about your Will. Or book a time with a specialist professional more local to you, if that’s what you need. Do something. Take that first step, and get things in place the way you know you should.
